Inside the door, there are two narrow racks that are ideal for butter and small juice cartons. The refrigerator uses thermoelectric exchange technology instead of compressor cooling. This makes it quieter than normal refrigerators, and has only a a gentle hum when operating.
The refrigerator's capacity is of 295 litres, with the fridge compartment holding 209 litres and the bottom mounted freezer supplying 89 litres of storage space. It is not frost-free, and will need occasional manual defrosting to ensure optimal performance. The drawer for chilled drinks is a nice addition and there's plenty of space in the crisper drawer to store fresh veg and fruit.
We tested the refrigerator for energy efficiency, and it scored an A+ rating. This is the lowest efficiency we have ever tested, and it is a good outcome for an appliance at this cost. The 42dB noise score was quite good. This is still a little more raucous than the cheaper models, but it's much quieter than the older refrigerators we've tested that made lots of noise when running.
Swan has kept the design simple which is an advantage in terms of the ease of use. The fridge has an LED light bulb as well as an adjustable temperature control. The temperature was stable. The top and middle shelves were only just a few degrees each side of the mean and the salad drawer stayed at 2oC. However we did notice that it was quite warm at the back, which could be a problem in more hot rooms.
Energy efficiency

The Swan is extremely quiet, despite being a compressor model that is traditional. It measured at 42dB when running. This is significantly quieter than models made a decade ago and much quieter than the majority of fridge freezers on our Best Buy chart.
Temperature stability was also good for a refrigerator that was this kind. The average temperature of the upper shelves, middle and lower ones was just a few degrees below the maximum. The salad drawer was a little more variable, bouncing between 5oC and below freezing.
Similar to the SR11010 the fridge needs an occasional manual defrost, but it is classified as A+ for energy efficiency. This is the most energy-efficient fridge freezer in our Best Buy chart. It will help keep your electric bill at a minimum.
